I have served as a language intermediary in various situations where accurate conveyance of information is very important, such as medical emergencies and encounters with the police.
I have also helped pursue people’s specific interests from facilitating encounters with a shaman to researching native plant knowledge and nomenclature.
I am available for these types of services at my hourly rate.
During my time in Latin America, I received Spanish and some Quechua language instruction from Luz Atapaucar. My Spanish improved greatly and the Quechua I learned opened unexpected new doors.
I get bored easily but Luz tailored the source materials to fit my interests and the conversation classes were more like fun excursions.
I also did the homestay at her home. I was very happy with my accommodations, especially because her mother who is an excellent cook and prepares everything from scratch, graciously tended to my special dietary needs.
Finally, I want to say that, had it not been for Luz, I would have spent a lot more money on the textiles that I bought. She knows the prices of things and does not let people get away with “gringo pricing".
I met Luz Atapaucar at a Spanish school in Cusco in the summer of 2002.I had never taken Spanish classes before and didn't know even a word of Spanish.
I am a type of person who can never learn languages in a normal
Classroom setting. I easily get bored, but with Luz I lasted for 4 hours a day every day for two weeks!I could pick up so much Spanish.I am a language teacher myself in the United States and I know Luz is an excellent teacher.
Now I love South America, especially Peru and visit every year.
Without Luz probably I would never had thought about going back to Peru.
If you want to learn Spanish and are interested in the Inca culture, Cusco is the best place to be.
I enjoyed my Spanish classes with Luz for many reasons.She is very well grounded in Spanish grammar; and organized, structured and patient in her presentation of critical grammar points.She is also very flexible about class content.I wanted to learn how to express myself in every day types of situations, such as greetings, introductions, leaving messages on voice mail, and how to apologize given different situations.I wanted to be a nice person in Spanish, and she has helped me do that in a lasting way. J.She is very accommodating and able to find the right balance between grammar and conversation, depending on the needs of the student.She is also adept at assessing the skill level of her students and how to design a program that will help a student advance from any particular point.
